System requirements
Windows MycoKey was developed in the cross platform database 4th Dimension (www.4d.com). Development was preformed on Macintosh with the layouts designed to run on a 600 x 800 pixels screen. After testing of the functionality of MycoKey it was transferred to Windows. At this point we realized that the Windows fonts are generally broader than the Mac equivalents. Thus a redesign of parts of the interface was required. Also, the Windows interface takes up a larger part of the screen than the Mac, so MycoKey could not work properly on 600 x 800 Windows screens. Realizing that many users of portables are still working on small screens we tried a solution where MycoKey tiles its windows on small screens. This is only tested on a few configurations of Windows XP and 98, and may give unexpected results with some setups. In general terms MycoKey is tested for functionality on Windows 98, 2000, ME and XP whereas the graphical interface may give some surprises on Windows 2000 and ME.
Macintosh During the later updates of MycoKey to the OS X compliant 4th Dimension 6.8.x, we unfortunately lost much of the compatibility with earlier Mac OS versions. MycoKey 1.0 thus works under Mac OS X, OS 9.2 and OS 9.1 with the latest carbon lib extension installed (can be downloaded from www.appel.com). Unfortunately the latest update from 4th Dimension 6.8.3 to 6.8.4 introduced a system error on quitting MycoKey under OS 9. The error is benevolent (it does not bring down anything outside MycoKey) but is nevertheless annoying. Upgrade to OS X! |
