Generic short diagnoses: Coloured, tough resupinates, typically fruiting above ground (xerotolerant), with ellipsoid, cylindrical or allantoid, non-amyloid spores and with thick-walled, encrusted cystidia and/or with sulphocystidia; several species with dendrohyphidia.
