Project history

The project idea emerged in January 1996. Planning, software testing etc. proceeded during the following two years.

The grant from the Tuborg Foundation was received in May 1998 and the real work started.

In January 1999 our website under »www.mycokey.com« was uploaded. It included the one year old sites »mycology at the University of Aarhus«, »the history of mycology« and »systematic overwiev«.

The GenusKey-part was added in April 1999. This contained groups with cap and stem (e.g. agarics, cantharelles and boletes).

Major revisions were made during the summer 1999 (compatibility of GenusKey with Internet Explorer), January 2000 (revised character matrix) and fall 2000 (polypores and clavariaceous fungi).

MycoKey easy and the Danish versions were added during September 2000.

Improvements in the data-matrix were made in 2001.

In July 2002 sorting of genera after probability was introduced.

During sessions in 2000-2001 the average user made 30 requests with a maximum of 1284 requests during one session.

In October 2003 the MycoKey 1.0 CDrom was released.

In June 2004 the web site reached visior number 100,000.

During 2004 Jan Vesterholt was employed to code the inoperculate discomycete genera into MycoKey.

In December 2006 MycoKey 2.0 was released as a download through www.SWREG.com.

In January 2007 the MycoKey 2.1 DVD was released.
