Overview of the kingdom Mycota

This systematic overview of the kingdom Mycota (or Fungi) aim to give a modern systematic context to the genera of fungi known from Denmark. It gives links to other WWW-sites of phylogenetic or taxonomical interest, including sites with the latest results from molecular taxonomy and sites with illustrations of representatives of the taxa.

The basis of this system evolved during the preparation of the book "Svamperiget" (Kingdom Mycota), published in Danish in 1998 (J.H. Petersen : Svamperiget, 1998). The system covers only genera that can be placed in the system of teleomorphic fungi. The anamorphs - or the Deuteromycetes/Fungi Inperfecti - are only included, when they can be placed in the phylogeny of the teleomorphs. In many cases this will not be possible before the phylogenies of the taxa are evaluated by the means of molecular methods.

Additional information on genera can be found in The Dictionary of Fungi and the Index of Fungi. Clues on fungal nomenclature, including lists of conserved generic names are found in the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature (ICBN).
